Innovative Tech of the Week: A New Style of TV
This square pane of glass may look like art, but here there is more than meets the eye. This is actually the DesignLine Television by Philips, a “seamless, monolithic sheet of glass” that also happens to let you watch Breaking Bad. Because of the design, users have the traditional options of standing it up or mounting it to the wall, but it can also be leaned against the wall.
The designers, along with the engineers in Bruges, had to find the correct glass finishing to best fit the design whilst still delivering a fantastic high end TV experience. The smooth gradation on the lower side of the glass gave us the ‘floating’ sensation we had been aiming for.
Any ideas on how this style of design will affect our future computer monitors? We have a few. Unfortunately for us, it is only available in the UK with no word yet on a US release date.
