Small and medium businesses are driving the global economy. The Aggie 100 is a list of the top Texas A&M Entrepreneurs with the fastest growing businesses in the world.
Friday they held their 10th annual lunch ceremony to name this year’s honorees. The event is put on by the Advisory Council for the Center for New Ventures and Entrepreneurship in the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University.
“Of all of the business awards you can get for an aggie, this is probably one of the coolest ones cause its your buddies, its your aggie friends,” said Bryan business owner James Benham.
This year’s list of aggie 100 featured a broad variety of businesses, including several new companies.Advisory council member and principal of Hollinden Professional Services Marketing, Christine Hollinden said,”We typically have some where between 15-20 new people on the list every year, but this time its 39! And it just shows the power of the education we’ve received at Texas A&M.”
Some aggies on the list say it validates what they do, like first timer on the list Jimmy McCord, owner of McCord Engineering.
“It calls attention to all the work you’re doing and how well you’re doing that work. And it helps you continue to grow,” said McCord.
Benham, President of JB Knowledge said, “What entrepreneurs care about it surviving as a company. Validation is nice.”
The honorees on the list are picked by the growth of their gross revenues over a three year period. Which is not only good for them, but good for the economy says seven time winner Benham.
“To understand that this group of entrepreneurs creates a lot of jobs in Texas and around the world and obviously gives a lot back to the university. Its a really neat experience. I’ll never forget our first time on the list. It was an awe inspiring moment,” said Benham.
