JBKnowledge President Reflects on AGC IT Forum Keynote & Event
By James Benham

Attending, and even more so speaking at, the AGC’s Annual IT Forum in Chicago is always exciting. For a lifelong technologist it’s great to get together at the one of the only events in the construction business dedicated to technology professionals and their needs, struggles and successes. I also love attending the interactive sessions like the one where everyone shares their favorite web and mobile services and apps. But of course my favorite part is getting the chance to present the new results of our annual Construction Technology Report and getting to convey what I think the future holds for construction technology, especially with a group that is so technically savvy that we can have a more nitty gritty discussion of the technical topics and challenges facing us. The group always gives great feedback and asks great questions and is very receptive to new ideas that really push the boundaries of what they know. As someone who gives over 25 talks a year, I can say it’s definitely one of the talks that I look forward to the most because of the audience, the organization coordinating the event (Fara Francis and her AGC team are the quintessential professionals) and the ideas that I come back to the office with. It was my third year presenting this year and I can’t wait to see what comes of all the interactions that took place in Chicago. I’m also really excited that we were able to announce that the Construction Open Software Alliance is going to take on stewardship of the AGCxml standard and keep moving it forward. What a great event!
