Tech of the Week: Charge Your Phone in 30 Seconds with StoreDot
The time it takes to charge a smartphone has long annoyed consumers. StoreDot is solving this problem by creating a prototype charger that can charge a Samsung Galaxy S4 in 30 seconds.
StoreDot, created out of the nanotechnology department at Tel Aviv University, has been developing biological semiconductors that can charge significantly quicker.
“The prototype charger is currently the size of a laptop charger, but the company says it has a parallel engineering effort aimed at reducing its size. The estimated cost will be twice that of an average phone charger, which is up to $30. StoreDot says commercial production in planned for late 2016.”
The Tel-Aviv based startup plans to make chargers for additional smartphone models while continuing to improve efficiency and usability. We hope this technology will spread to more than just smartphone chargers. Where else could consumers and businesses benefit from rapid-charging technology?
